Happy New Year Everyone!

Our biggest news this month is that our catalogue, which is currently at the printer, has undergone big changes: more articles, fewer books, and Leigh’s artwork throughout. Some of you probably didn’t know that Leigh is an avid painter...but you will when you see the new catalogue! It was so much fun to work on, and we hope you like it. (A special thank you goes to Francesca Droll of Abacus Graphics who did an outstanding job making every page a work of art in itself.)

All catalogue orders already placed will be sent directly from the printer in time for NEDAW, Feb 26th to March 3rd. If you need extras to hand out or haven’t ordered yet, here’s the link. Or call us at 800-756-7533.

I’m also excited to announce that Eating Disorders Recovery Today now has its own website! What was once a print newsletter is now an online home for recovery articles, essays, book reviews, and poetry, written both by prominent experts and individuals in recovery who have positive experiences to share. I am serving as managing editor, and any submissions should be sent to me at: Lindsey@gurze.net.

I hope 2012 brings all good things your way,

The Birds Still Sing
by Anne Edwards

"If the birds can still sing,
the snow won't last forever,"
I would tell myself
when the storms seemed
endless,
frightening.
Sooner or later,
sing they always did.
Sometimes, as an entire flock,
sometimes, only one soft twitter.
How their song
comforted,
reassured,
lifted the troubled spirit within.
Eventually,
the snow,
whatever it happened to be,
melted away at their songs,
and I knew I had made it through.
I was free!

About this poem
Anne says, "Being a native Southern Californian, my first experience with snow was more than a little daunting! It seemed as if it would never end. My bird friends knew better. I would hear them singing and their song became a signal that the snow was easing up and passing by. This became a symbol for the other storms in my life and never so much as when I had to go into a treatment center. I would wonder if I would ever get out, ever recover in a way that would last. When it got to be overwhelming, I would hear the birds and tell myself, 'The snow won't last forever,' and it didn't. I did get out, I continued my recovery, and was on my way to being free of ED."
