Welcome to the Gürze eNews!

Dear Readers,

First of all, I wanted to let you know that I have taken the plunge and am now the "voice" of the Gürze Books Facebook Page. I will be making a small post most weekdays about books, articles, thoughts, or whatever crosses my mind or desk. I invite you to become a "fan" and together let's see what happens!

In this issue of the enews, we are running specials on 3 books that have to do with parents and parenthood. The first is about loving your body during and after pregancy, and is titled, Does This Pregnancy Make Me Look Fat?. Next is How I look at My Daughter, which is for parents who want to prevent an eating disorder by celebrating their child's inner beauty and potential. The last book is titled My Kid is Back, and it's for parents who have a child with an eating disorder and want to read stories by other families who have gone through the journey of recovery.

Also, Geneen Roth's latest book Women, Food and God just reached #2 on the LA Times bestseller list, so we're putting it on sale this month. I love this book! Geneen writes that our relationship with food mirrors our relationship with life, and that by looking at both, we can experience the brilliance of our inner selves—an incredibly powerful message.

Finally, just to keep you up to date, Leigh and I did finish rewriting 4 chapters of our Bulimia book (and sometimes I wonder if dental work might not be preferable). Thank you to those who recommended additions, and we'll let you know when we are further along.

Blessings,
Lindsey

Excerpt from the book Does This Pregnancy Make Me Look Fat?

"We can't shield our children from all of the conflicting messages about food, weight, and body image that are floating around out there. But we can try to change our attitudes, behaviours, and conversations so they match the values we want our children to learn. We can teach our children how to be critical media consumers by talking to them about the difference between reality and retouching. We can give them the tools to understand and decode the business of celebrity media. Even a simple request to stop body bashing can lead to deeper conversations among friends, who will think and learn, and pass it on. Let your positive actions lead the way. There is no prescribed road map, but we do know where you have to start—with yourself."
