Dear ED Professionals,

First, I want to mention that I have taken the plunge and become the "voice" for the Gürze Books Facebook Page. I'm going to post one item most weekdays, about books, articles, thoughts–whatever crosses my mind or my desk! I will carefully select content to be appropriate for anyone, and I invite you and your clients to become a "fan" of Gürze. Let's see what happens!

In book news, we just got copies of Eating Disorders in Sport by Ron Thompson and Roberta Sherman and Medical Management of Eating Disorders by Laird Birmingham and Janet Treasure. We are also featuring Dr. Treasure's other new book that came out last Fall, The Clinician's Guide to Collaborative Caring in Eating Disorders, which is based on the Maudsley Method.

Also, Geneen Roth's new book Women, Food and God (now on sale!) was #2 on the Los Angeles Times bestseller list last Sunday, which is fantastic news because her book is about discovering our inner brilliance, and isn't that the most powerful teacher? I loved this book, and so did Karen Koenig who wrote a review on her blog "Normal" Eating.

I also just edited and posted an article on Eating Disorders in the Jewish Community by Judy Rabinor, which is about the vulnerabilities of the Jewish community to eating disorders and the rituals that Judaism offers to individuals in recovery.

Finally, just for fun, we are offering Hilde Bruch's biography at a special 60% discount. This is a book that we published years ago as homage to a pioneer in this field, and it's both entertaining (she drove a Rolls Royce after all!) and very well written. My book club gave it a unanimous thumbs-up.

And for those of you who are authors, please remind me: Why did I want to update our Bulimia book? I know, to be current. But writing is really hard! Stay tuned.

In love and light,

Lindsey

PS: Here is a lovely testimonial about our website from a fan:

"I just got an email from a nervous, distraught parent after learning that her 16 year old anorexic daughter has 'low bone mass.' I was able to email her the info on the
Gürze site about bone problems that teens & adults can have due to AN. It is written in simple, non-medical jargon form that most can understand. Your info articles are a blessing to many and help save time for us overworked therapists who also run non-profits!

Eating and The Body: A Feminist, Cultural, Relational Psychoanalytic Framework Invitation to join in one-year post-graduate professional training program in NYC
Applications due June 5, 2010

The Women's Therapy Centre Institute is known for its pioneering work on women's relationship to food, feeding, and their bodies. We have developed a theory and practice integrating psychoanalytic, trauma, feminist, and social theory which are fully elaborated in our self-attuned model illustrated in Eating Problems (Basic Books,1994) written by The WTCI faculty. This integrative model offers a treatment method that includes working directly with the symptom, thereby helping people become embodied selves, (re) claim, literally and metaphorically, their own hunger, appetites, needs, desires, and limits. The program enriches and deepens therapists' knowledge base, skills, and use of self in working with people suffering not only with eating and body image difficulties, but with obsessions and symptoms of all kinds. Graduates find their clinical work becoming enlivened whether in agency-based or private psychotherapy practice.
