ABC Hawaii is a collection of professionals on Oahu providing individual psychotherapy and nutrition counseling. Its 'Ai Pono Intensive Out-Patient Eating Disorders Program is located in downtown Honolulu and has a philosophy based on the concepts set forth in Eating in the Light of the Moon. This includes the perspective that eating diorders are an adaptive mechanism and the belief that full recovery is possible and can be achieved by finding and fulfilling one's "true, inner hungers". The program focuses on developing skills necessary for recovery: introceptive awareness (differentiating between physical and emotional hunger), emotional literacy and expression, assertive communication,and intuitive awareness. Ai Pono is a six month intensive out-patient treatment program.
