This manual was developed to provide guidelines and sessions for helping a person with an eating disorder to consume a healthy diet. Although written for dieticians and nutrition therapists, it is also extremely helpful for the counselor who is assisting with food issues in therapy. This self-study course offers sixteen pre-planned cognitive-behavioral therapy sessions with extensive worksheets and handouts. Six chapters discuss the latest information and research on eating disorders, counseling strategies, and principles of cognitive-behavioral counseling. Other topics include nutrition-focused therapy, refeeding, and guidelines for creating an effective session.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Eileen Stellefson Myers, MPH, RD, LDN, FADA, has provided nutrition therapy for clients with eating disorders since 1981. Prior to going into private practice, she was the Director of Community and Professional Education at The Medical University of South Carolina. She has published and presented nationally on various topics related to eating disorders and obesity.
