This curriculum for grades K-3 complements the film BodyTalk 3: My Special Body. Two lessons and a journal-writing component are included. It is recommended that teachers show the BodyTalk DVD that is age-appropriate for their students before starting the lessons. Each lesson is correlated to education standards and includes the following elements:

•Procedures
•Standards

A central element of the lessons is to promote student’s love of themselves and their bodies by increasing awareness of the diversity of human shapes and sizes, the importance of eating a variety of foods, and the joy of body movement. The curriculum focuses on seven key topics:

1. Why people look different from one another.
2. Exploring characteristics that make people beautiful.
3. The definition of a person’s “natural” body.
4, The effect of teasing and what can be done to deal with it when it happens.
5. How people know when they are hungry and when they are full.
6. What healthy foods are and how they can also be a person’s favorite foods.
7. Why it’s fun as well as healthy to play and be physically active.
