This curriculum for grades 7-12 complements the film BodyTalk 1: Teens Talk About Their Bodies, Eating Disorders, and Activism. It is recommended that teachers show the BodyTalk DVD that is age-appropriate for their students before starting the lessons. Each lesson is correlated to education standards and includes the following elements:

It is imperative to help teens resist the omnipresent messages that contribute to problems with body image, eating, and weight. Through the BodyTalk curriculum, teens learn to define health and beauty in a manner appropriate to their own bodies and lives. The lessons are designed to help students:

1. Foster self-acceptance of their body shape and size.
2. Gain awareness of discrimination based on body size, and the cultural influences that permit such prejudices.
3. Become aware of the powerful role genetics plays in determining body shape and size.
4. Discuss body image and health and weight issues, and engage in activism projects in their schools and communities.
5. Develop a positive and accepting body image, which entails changing the way they talk about themselves and others.
